Whitfield Holdings owns and operates hotels across Canada. We are seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Assistant Controller to support financial reporting, accounting operations, and financial oversight across our hotel portfolio.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the finance team and hotel management to strengthen accounting processes, deliver reliable financial information, and support operating performance.

*Key Responsibilities*

* Support day-to-day accounting across multiple hotel properties and corporate entities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll oversight.
* Coordinate month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
* Prepare and review property-level and consolidated financial reports, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.
* Review hotel revenue reconciliations, including room revenue, food and beverage sales, credit card settlements, and other operating income.
* Analyze financial results against budgets and prior periods, investigate variances, and provide clear explanations to management.
* Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and working capital monitoring.
* Work with hotel general managers and property teams to resolve accounting issues and improve financial controls.
* Support the tracking and reconciliation of capital expenditures and fixed assets.
* Assist with tax filings, statutory remittances, and other reporting requirements.
* Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for external accountants, auditors, and lenders.
* Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, reporting processes, and operational efficiency.

*Qualifications and Experience*

* Experience in progressively responsible accounting roles, ideally within hospitality or a business with multiple locations or entities.
* Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
* Experience preparing financial statements, managing month-end close processes, and completing balance sheet reconciliations.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, with the ability to learn new systems.
* Familiarity with hotel property management systems, point-of-sale systems, and hotel revenue reconciliation is an asset.
* Knowledge of Canadian payroll, sales tax, and statutory remittance requirements.
* A degree or diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field; a CPA designation or progress toward one is an asset.
* Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and investigate discrepancies.
* Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both finance colleagues and hotel operating teams.
