Canada Careers (“we”, “us”) is a Canadian job bank. We collect personal information only to run the service, and we handle it in line with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws.
1. What we collect
- Job seekers: name, email, phone, city and province, work preferences, skills, the communities you choose to identify with (optional), your resume and any cover letters you submit.
- Employers and consultants: name, email, phone, company details, job postings, and billing records (we never store full card numbers — payments are processed by Stripe).
- Everyone: messages you send us, and basic technical data such as IP address, browser type and pages viewed, used for security and to keep the site working.
Identifying with a community (for example New Immigrants or Indigenous) is always optional. It is used only to match you with postings that welcome that community and is never shown publicly.
2. How we use it
- To run your account, publish postings, deliver applications to employers and send job alerts you ask for.
- To bill subscriptions ($9.99/month + GST per posting), issue receipts and meet tax obligations.
- To answer support requests, prevent abuse and improve the service.
We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Who we share it with
- Employers you apply to receive your application, resume and profile details you have chosen to share. Once shared, the employer is responsible for its own handling of that information.
- Service providers that host our servers, deliver email and process payments, bound by contract to protect your data.
- Authorities when required by Canadian law or a valid legal order.
4. Storage and retention
Data is stored on servers in Canada where possible. Resumes are kept while your account is active and removed within 90 days of account deletion. Billing records are retained for seven years as required by the Canada Revenue Agency. Expired or cancelled job postings are removed from public view immediately and retained in the employer’s private archive.
5. Your rights
You may access, correct or delete your personal information at any time from your account pages, or by contacting us. You may withdraw consent to job alerts using the link in any alert email. If you are not satisfied with our response you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
6. Cookies
We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
7. Contact
Privacy questions go to our support team through the contact page. We respond within 30 days.
